Actually, I don't think his toy was based on the MAC-10 or variants
thereof. It looks much more like an UZI pistol or the Micro UZI. Here are
some links, and everyone can decide for themselves:
First a page about MAC-10's:

Now, the Micro UZI and UZI Pistol:

A good shot of a Micro UZI:

An even bigger shot of the Micro UZI:

And finally, the UZI Pistol:

Judging from the position and shape of the trigger guard, I think the toy
is an UZI pistol imitation. If I were retouching the barrel, I would try to
make it look slimmer. The toy barrel is much too fat and stubby. There
should also be a knurled ring at the base of the barrel, but that might be
too hard to draw in by hand. There are actually a lot of details missing on
the toy, but it's just a toy after all. I noticed that the real UZI guns
don't have a lot of simple slotted screw heads showing. You might want to
rethink the screw head detailing.
It will be interesting to see if you can make the toy look totally realistic.
take care,
Glen

You might start by looking at photos of Mac-10, M10, or M11 variants.
Your toy gun is based on these, not an UZI. Besides, I think your
touch up doesn't look too bad.
There are a couple of photos here:
