I guess I stand alone on this. I've found that B&W 35mm prints peak in
quality at about 6X9 (tripod or no). Anything after that is downhill. Those
are my standards. Not that I don't print larger. When I do, it's with the
knowledge that it won't look as good as the 6X9.
Salgado has his prints made at 20X24? Fine. He walks on water and can do no
wrong. Would people buy the prints? Yeah! Would I buy one? If I could afford
it, heck yeah! It's a Salgado! But I know it wouldn't look near as good as
they would at 6X9. It would be betraying the format.
Is is good enough for him? You don't know that. The man is making money. If
someone told me I could have my stuff printed at mural size for $500 and get
$5000+ for it, I'd do it!
