That the woman was kissing with her eyes open and looking about is ~exactly~ the point of the photo, if I know anything about Godfrey's intent and vision here. I saw the same scene, perhaps a fraction of a second later, or maybe I was just a bit slower to grab the shot. She's pulled away from the guy, is looking about with a careful eye, and he's still got his eyes closed and seems to be in smooch mode.
