Depends on how close the acquaintance is.

Depends on the true facts of the situation as interpreted by the
photographer and the sitter, and how those facts relate to one another in
context.

Depends on how strongly they feel the photo is inappropriate to show.

Depends on what the consequences might be if is decided to show it.

Depends on what the reaction might be, and the repercussions that could ensue.

Normally i would say publish and be damned - but that's in news. In this
case, i would say if in doubt, don't. Is the possible loss of a
friendship - and any further consequences - worth it for publishing a
portrait that the sitter expressly wishes not to be shown ?
