Well, he can only sue if they give him permission to sue, which they will not. The only other recouse is if he can make a case of them acting under color of law to deprive him of his civil rights.

The government is protected fromt he citizen unless it chooses not ot be in the US. One area of law where we are kind of backwards. The government needs to be held responsible for its agents actions.

what really pisses me off in this is the cops giving this guy's name
and pic to the press - and the press choosing to publish it.

I mean, bad enough he's arrested, but for all that humiliating
publicity! There will be enough people who saw the initial story who
never read the subsequent ones about the charges being withdrawn, that
this poor sucker will always wonder, when he's out in public, if
people are looking at him funny whether they recognize him.

about a decade ago, the police in kitchener, ontario, canada (about an
hour west of toronto) arrested about a dozen men alleged to have been
involved in a washroom sex thing. one of them, a lawyer from a nearby
town, married with kids, killed himself after his name was released to
the local press and published.

no matter what one thinks of the charges, this man was innocent until
proven guilty, yet his reputation was smeared before he ever had a
chance to see the inside of a courtroom.

any charges of a sexual nature should be handled more sensitively by
the police and press. lives are too easily ruined by mere
allegations, even if they prove to be groundless.

i hope he sues for millions, and wins.
