My recommendation would be to follow the technical advice regarding charging as provided by the manufacturer of the cells, no need to speculate or ruminate from a lay persons perspective then. Most good quality cells of late design can easily handle and are not damaged by a charging current of 1000mA in a charger such as the LaCrosse BC900.
