Yep. "J" lenses have no aperture ring, so you can't use them with
cameras that don't have aperture control on the body.

I borrowed Bill Owens' FA-J 18-35 for a hike on Grandfather Mountain
once. My impressions:
It's slow (small max aperture)
It's light and "cheap feeling"
Plastic lens mount
Remarkably good optics for the price

I'd consider getting one for hiking and such if I had the spare cash.
