I forgot to mention that there is quite
substantial vibration, it can be seen as
the shutter opens and closes. But it is
clear that the vibration (opening
shutter) dies down fast enough so that
it doesn't spoil the image.
This might be useful information for
those using long lenses.

the mirror goes up and after a short time the shutter operates -- for
exposures of between 1/50s and about 3s I can detect no deterioration in
image quality. I've taken pictures at 1200X of specimens with very fine
structure and they show a resolution of 180 nm. This is very close to
the Abbe limit; so for practical high resolution light microscopy the
*ist D meets all the requirements.
