Honestly, I'd hold out until you save a bit of money for a better
camera, no matter what the brand.
I've not used a D50, but a D70 viewfinder is very small. And the
digirebel XT is even smaller and darker.
It's _almost_ tempting for me to buy a used Canon D30, and an M42
adapter, to use my old screwmount glass. I'm not sure how good the
viewfinder is in one of those though.

Maybe put the $1000 away somewhere, add a little bit month by month,
and make a decision when you have a bit more money?
