Hi Rob, I have 20 NIMH rechargeables (2400mAh) with which I power the *istDS, PD7X, flashes, etc. I usually leave the PD7X plugged in so I have a fully charged set available at all times.
For my two week trip to Egypt I took 4 sets (each of 4 batteries) - 1 set in the PD7X, 1 set in the *istDS and 2 spare sets. Each evening I'd swap the sets between the PD7X & *istDS. The PD7X's ability to function as a (dual voltage) battery charger is a great feature. If I recall correctly there was only one day I used one of the spare sets.
