It's always good to hear from the happy users. Although my one year anniversary isn't untill Feb, I'd have to say that my satisfaction level is very high indeed. I was commenting to my wife a few days ago that buying the DS was a great decision, even though it was hard to put the money down for it. I've never spent that much on camera equipment before. She readily agreed.
I've a way to go to catch up to you on the 9000+ images in a year, but I'm with you on the 2 rolls of film. I was hoping to buy a portable storage unit like yours, but my flash died on the weekend.
