I agree. Your recent photos have definitely looked better.
I have fought a lot with PSEL, without getting comfortable using
it. So now
I've made a strategy. Now, I'm trying to be more systematic in my
learning.
First step is to learn raw file conversion. First when I'm
comfortable with
that, I plan to move on to more advanced stuff (using layers, etc).
That's a good plan. I liken the process to darkroom work with film:
- RAW conversion constitutes adjustments that affect the image
rendering as a whole, just like film processing affects the entirety
of the negative.
- editing in RGB space should be adjusting/correcting that image into
a final rendering, selectively adjusting overall contrast or local
contrast, etc, just like working a negative with an enlarger into a
print.
If you haven't already obtained it, I recommend reading Bruce
Fraser's "Real World Camera Raw with Photoshop...". He has editions
for both CS and CS2, I'm not sure how much the detail specifics of
workflow transfer to Photoshop Elements but the basic concepts
presented in the first few chapters and the detail description of the
Camera Raw converter controls (both v2.4 (CS) and v3.x (CS2)) would
be extremely useful to you. Best information on the subject I've
found to date.
