So far, there has been nothing down there attractive enough to venture that way. I tend to get caught up in New Mexico and Utah, and don't think there is much in Texas to compete.

You forgot Arizona and Colorado, they also have very similar vistas.

In TX we have Big Bend, a huge national park where you will find pretty much untouched desert mountains, canyons, and valleys. Because of its size, it also has more diversity, so you can also find pine forests, swampy areas, flat as pancake farm areas, and gulf of mexico beaches.

I've stayed at the Chisos Mountain Lodge in the middle of Big Bend, its a refreshing escape from busy city life, with no TV, no cell phones (they dont work there), and unbelievable nighttime skies (its so isolated that it has one of the least light-polluted nighttime skies in North America, plus the ultra low humidity and altitude help too)
