Jogging in hunting areas during hunting season has a certain Darwinian quality about it.

Its just so much easier here in Texas. You trespass, you get shot. No one trespasses. ;)

Gonz!! You make us sound so uncivilized. You forgot to mention that "No Trespassing" signs are widely and visibly posted, so everyone has all the warning they need.

Ah! I am reassured. Only the illiterate and foolish will be shot.

Man, I'm just barely resisting the temptation to make a joke about
Texans here ;-)

LOL. You can joke about Texas Aggies all you want.

I'm watching you Mr Roberts. ;) I lived in the Pittsburgh area too you know. It was scary going anywhere during hunting season. I'm sure you know what I mean. There were always a few casualties.
Oh yes I do! I like running in North Park, about 30 minutes north of
Pittsburgh. It's always a bit disconcerting during hunting season. When
you're running 15-16 miles you can get pretty far out of the "civilized"
area (at least if you want to run on roads where the hunters in the
bushes present less of a danger than the *ssholes on the road). You keep
telling yourself "I'm wearing brightly colored clothing and running on
the road, where it would be stupid for anyone to shoot, even if they did
think I was a deer", but it doesn't make you feel any better when you
hear a shot in the distance!

My Aunt lives in Waynesburgh, about 1.5 hours south of Pittsburgh. Well, one of her kids likes to go hunting down there all the time, behind their house. One time I went along and was up on his tree stand with him and all of a sudden we heard many shots to the left of us, the shots continued getting closer until we saw a deer fly by in front of us, who apparently was running a gauntlet of hunters. My cousin promptly raised his gun and gave it his try, and missed also. I cant imagine walking in the woods there without bright orange hunter clothing. Despite having orange clothing myself, I was pretty nervous walking back to his house later that day.
