i always shoot panoramas with the camera in portrait orientation. the 
:useful" location of the tripod mount isn't as helpful.

A simple bracket is good enough. Pentax SLR's have their tripod mount
in the lens axis. Any straight bracket will help you move the nodal
point above the tripod centre.
