BTW, William is 105 years old, and still has his ration of rum every
night at 9pm.

Veterans Day always me brings powerful reminders of those friends who served in the armed forces: my teenage years in the Vietnam War era cannot be expunged from memory, the emotions are still there. I try to do something related in honor. This year the Michael Kenna lecture on "Impossible to Forget" was the evening of the 9th, and the evening of the 10th I went to see "Jarhead", the adaptation of Marine Anthony Swofford's memoir of the Gulf War. In both, I found again that other space that I remember from waiting for the draft lottery results in my 19th year ..

Excellent photo, Cotty. May there be fewer veterans to honor in future eras. We, born in the bloody world of the 20th Century, will not lack for them however we might hope.
