I understand Marnie. My point was that, although the interior of California can be very warm and dry, the coast is usually much cooler - hence, on a hot day in San Jose, it could be 96 degrees F, but take a 45 minute trip to Santa Cruz, and it's down into the mid-70s because of the cooling on-shore breeze.
