Thumbs+ builds the thumbnails from the RAW file if you configure it so. it
is significantly slower when doing that.

That's what ALL catalog thumbnail programs do, as far as I'm aware. Even
BreezeBrowser, which is capable of doing RAW conversion, just shows you
the preview JPEGs in the thumbnail view.
Only Adobe's Bridge application calls the RAW converter to update the
thumbnail display with a RAW converted version, live. Bridge is not
particularly useful for cataloging archives and making thumbnail
archives, however.
