I KNEW someone would recommend a LCD anyway. :-)

I don't like to waste money on poor quality monitors.

Maybe my laptop is nothing to go by, but it's a pretty good laptop, and the display gives me a headache. I don't like the mat effect etc. I also invested
in a Spyder fairly recently, which is unnecessary for a LCD.

The first flatscreen LCD for a desktop system I had (1999 vintage) was far better than even the best laptop display today. Laptop displays are seriously compromised due to size, weight and power.

Nevermind. It turns out the 17" CRT is the ONLY one that HP is currently selling. So I'll look at it in the store and see what I think. Also, $200 is my top price. This is an unexpected expense, so I can't go any higher. I've already
reached the limits on my budget on a new Canon lens.

Do a search on ebay for "17" LCD Display". I see several available with a Buy It Now price of less than $200. These are often remaindered or refurbished units, but they work just fine.
