when i drive around with my 400/2.8, it's in the hard case with the latches
closed but not locked. i would never consider flying with the hard case. i
would rather put it in a very padded soft case and have it with me as
carryon or have the soft case inside a duffle packed solidly with lots of
clothing around it.
