That's backwards, Tim. If you get the best scan, the rest of the
image editing is easier. If you get the image processed nicely, the
printing is easier.
I take pains to make the best scans I can, and to do the best RAW
conversion I can. If I do a good job there, the rest of the
adjustment work in Photoshop is a piece of cake, and I do nothing but
print at the end. If I didn't get the picture right in the earlier
stages, printing is a pain in the butt.
It's just like in the darkroom: it's very hard to make a decent print
from a crappy negative, very easy to make a good print from a good
negative.
