Perhaps that could be true. In my daughter and sisters case, for now anyway, 
they are
using the istD 
as a manily P&S camera. I ams trying to instill what little knowledge i have on 
them but
so far its photos 
of friends, cottages, cats(with apologize to Mr Johnson) and garden flowers.
I fiqured the zooms would be benificial in showing them what focal lenghts work 
in what
situations, 
and not having to do an initial investment of several primes,then move from 
there.

They also have touble with mf on the istD thus the AF to keep the interest up.

That may be flawed logic,but its working.LOL
