Hey gang,

Thanks to everyone who took a glance at my ice photo.
I'll round up the comments in this one mail. Hope I remember all.

To Graywolf, Frank, Cotty, Shel, Jack Davis, AnnSan and Tom C,
humble thanks for the nice words. Glad you liked it. :-)

There are some comments I feel I have to respond to:

From Paul Stenquist:
Beautiful and fascinating. I live in a frigid climate, but I've never seen this. Great job of capturing it on film.

Thanks Paul. I'm sure you can find this in your area as well. What you have to do is to find a lake where the ice is frozen thick enough to carry you before the first snowfall. It doesn't have to be very thick. 8-10 centimeters is more than enough, but makes you feel more comfortable. Follow a natural crack until you find a section running almost in parallell with the ice surface. Then experiment with the camera angle and filter rotation.

From Boris:
Lesson learned: Jostein has an eye for abstract imagery as well...
I can only try to imagine what you saw when you actually were turning the polarizer round... In fact, I cannot, it's been a very long time since I experienced a winter colder than +15C...

LOL, yes you'd have to resort to your ice cube tray...:-)
Now if you *really* want to experience winter, I'm sure we can arrange something...

From Tim Øsleby:
My first reaction was: Strange.
Now my reaction is: Strange.
I don't get it, but I like it ;-)

And from Marnie:
Cool. I don't get it either, but it's an interesting image.

Ice is weird up close. :-)
One of my favourite motifs for that reason alone.

From Mike Wilson:
Excellently observed phenomenon. I've been looking at this since yesterday, trying to work out why it doesn't work for me as well as usual. I think it's the composition. Either there's too much in the frame (it's not "enigmatic" enough) or there is too little. I can't make my mind up.

I'll go and dither some more.

Thanks Mike. Actually I agree with you. For being a "graphic" pattern the composition is a little too crowded. Since Sunday the temperature has come up again, so I suspect the ice is all gone again. Hopefully I'll get another chance before Christmas. :-)
