No, he took the picture on "Light Up Night" (I figured this out after
looking at the EXIF data in the shot again). It takes place once a year,
just before Thanksgiving, to mark the beginning of the holiday season.
They have a big party and light up all the buildings downtown just for
this one night. Great for photographers ;-)
Yes, Mark's correct. That's why so many lights are on. It has nothing to do
with people forgetting to turn off the light switches. ;)
This was my first time at Light Up Night, and it really is a beautiful
sight to behold. When I entered Pittsburgh, I came through the tunnels on
the south side, and the view of the brightly lit city one sees immediately
upon exiting the dark tunnels is truly an impressive sight.
I want to return next year, with more time to scout around and get familiar
with the city's layout. I didn't have enough time this year to do the city
justice. There's lot's of things I want to do differently next time. I just
wish they did this in the summer. The temperature was well below freezing
that night.
take care,
Glen
