Leon. You could probably build up the button with DEVCON, then drill & tap the Devcon. It takes a thread very well.

I thought you meant you press on the remote switch, but you mean you press on the double cable release, and one of the releases is screwed into the switch. The button itself isn't very thick - I haven't prised it open, but it can't be more than a few mm thick. It is 14mm dia. There is probably about 3mm of travel on the switch itself.
