They actually made some of the high-end models themselves. The rest came
mainly from Microtek.

Not really. As far as scanners were concerned, they realized soon enough
that they wouldn't stand a chance in a mass market. Just look at the
mess Linotype-Hell-Heidelberg - or whatever they're calling themselves
this month - have been in for years.

The same goes for their digicam business. They hadn't made any cameras
for decades and their ill-fated attempts at selling re-labelled Soligor
SLRs and lenses had ruined whatever had been left of their reputation as
a camera maker.
