Just as an update:
I don't have many AF lenses and shot my fist test roll with the FA 28-74 F4
AL zoom. It was nice, but this afternoon I picked up an FA 50 f1.7 at the
local camera store. The MZ-S with a fast 50mm prime is a real dream. Shot
some walking around shots and a few tripod mounted. I don't have the cable
release (is it available in the US yet?) but used the 2 second self timer
with mirror pre fire.
Ironically, I played around with a Nikon F-100 at the camera store while
they looked for a the 50mm lens I bought. The F-100 is a damn nice camera,
but I prefer the ergonomics of the Mz-S. Autofocus seems equivalent,
though I like the red light around the active AF sensor in the Nikon finder
(Minolta does the same.) But, given a choice, I'd take the Mz-S any day -
The AF sensors are wider apart and the camera had a clear ergonomic ethic,
which I did not detect in the F 100.
I'm totally delighted with the Mz-S and FA 50 f1.7 setup -- heck, I'm even
using autofocus...
