Interesting comparison you raised here. Having owned and used a Pentax FA24/2 and A24/2.8 concurrently I found that the loss in image quality of the f2 lens at f2 or f2.8 was such that I preferred using my f2.8 lens wide open when shooting in marginal light. The possibility of occasional image degradation due to camera shake was preferable to the stop of extra speed but overall poorer image quality. The f2.8 lens was the lower cost but higher performance option in this case considering the variables that were of primary interest to me.
