Thanks everyone for commenting on this one. It seems to elicit rather polarized comments/thoughts. I posted this on two other forums (fora?) and received surprisingly good comments (better than I expected, to be honest) on one, mixed-to-positive on the other, and here it seems to have been mixed-to-not-so-positive. Interesting... Cotty, it's certainly not a red herring. I recognize that it's certainly not my best work, but there are elements of it that I like. I won't say much more about it, except that one of the reasons that I posted it is that I'm not sure that I was able to look at it objectively. Dave Young (the bassist) is one of Canada's best jazz musicians, having played with many of the best (including Oscar Peterson). In addition, the sax player, Perry White (not Spiderman's boss) is a friend of mine, and a top local jazz/session man. So, I was happy to capture both of them on film. When I'm invested in a photo that way, I wonder how dispassionate I can be in assessing my photos. The comments I've received here (and elsewhere) have helped me become more objective with regard to this photo (and other such photos I've posted in the past).
