At time of introduction of the Optio S, I was told that Pentax designers
proudly said that it was the first Pentax digital camera whose firmware was
fully developed inhouse. All S-series digicams derived from the original S.
About the hardware:
The S-series and the DLSR's are made in the Philippines, hence they should
be all manufactured by Pentax.
The bigger Optios (555, 750Z) are made in Japan, hence they should be
manufactured by Sanyo.
Optio 30/50/60 are rebadged Premiers (made in China).
I don't know who makes the WP-series (made in China). Probably Pentax (those
are too advanced, well built and work too good to be Premier).

I'd be surprised if Casio were making the firmware. Most of Pentax's
point-n-shoots, though designed by Pentax, are built by Sanyo (as are a
many of Nikon and Canon's, BTW). I'd expect Pentax engineers to still
write the firmware, though.
