Hi!

I have scanned a number of 35mm frames on the Perfection 3170.
Not Good! You'd have a better image by going to the corner drug store
and getting them placed on an inexpensive small file CD.
MF are not too bad. Depends on your expectations. I've printed some
8x10 3170 MF scans that looked go enough to have sold a few out of the
matted/unframed crate in the store.
Neg strips are a special problem, as the carrier design allows them to
curl at will.

Here is a hint... Take a plastic slide frame, polish the inner side of the frame so as to allow smooth not scratching motion of the film if you want to scan a strip frame by frame... Applying such a frame solved all my flatness problems with my Epson 2450.

I think there is one issue here that hasn't been addressed. My Epson 2450 is oldish of course. And my main problem is that the colors come out differently depending on how much time the scanner has been switched on...

I think that as a *cheap* solution flatbeds are acceptable. If you do serious scanning or film shooting then a dedicated scanner is of course necessary. And then if you have to scan MF then it becomes quite *expensive*...

Just my bits-n-pixels worth.

Boris
