Late Nikon scanners still use an LED light source but the light is diffuse not
a condensor assembly as can be seen in the LS2000. In the late scanners the
LEDs are fired into both ends of a glass rod which has white patch stuck to it.
The light that is reflected off this patch and through the media is quite
diffuse.
