The Pentax software is probably the reason for the slow speed (your
Sempron should be appreciably faster than my Duron, which is a several
generations older bottom-end CPU). Might I suggest RawShooter
Essentials? It's significantly better than the poor Pentax Software.

And the Sempron is the low end of the x64 chips. $135US it cost me.
And though clocking @ 3GHz, it really performs like a 2.0 or a little
faster.
But for the money savings, and that it's faster than what I have at work,
there's no complaints from me.
Picture Publisher (I forget which ver.) and the some of the Epson
software
(scanner, iirc) didn't want to install. But Epson had the x64 online
and ready.
Otherwise, it's really nice. It separates 32- & 64-bit installs on
its own.
The motherboard is A-bit. Not a great motherboard, but it does the job.
For $60 it was hard to beat.
(For my forthcoming Win2003 / Domino 6.5x server I'll be using an 850
Athlon
system that I picked up at a local thrift shop for < $5US.)
The 64-bit IE is noticably quicker than the 32-bit version.
