I read an article that cited a study that farm kids have far fewer
allergies and infections (later in life), because they're brought up
in dusty, dirty environments from infancy. Not that farms are dirty
(don't want to insult farmers), but - you know what I mean - dusty
barnyards, manure and guano all over the place, running around muddy
fields.
All of that early exposure builds up immunities that city kids (some
of whom are reared in near sterile conditions in comparison) don't
have the advantage of.
I have a sister in law who is a childrens nurse (or whatever it is
called in English) and she told us the same thing. She even had some
publications showing that dirty children are (up to a limit, of
course) more healthy than those who shower each day.
Not very politically correct, but true anyway.
