Congrats. In retrospect, probably the most likely thing, since ICs rarely go bad.

Unfortunately your original question is probably unanswerable. It's likely a custom IC cooked up for Pentax, or best case it's a general-purpose programmable logic type device that's been cooked up with proprietary info. Neither case is very encouraging.

        Fortunately, you don't care anymore... :)
