Thanks David, Peter, Don and Godfrey.
But I need a 3 m distance to the camera. I guess I can put in a longer cord?
Looking at Daves picture, I realized that it's some kind of standard jack
plug? So, I fetched my remote switch for my old Jessop Winder (for Super A,
P50 etc.) and took at chance plugging it into my *ist D. Guess what - it
works! And it has a 3 m cable! (thanks very much for the piture, Dave)

(I actually uses this to turn on/off a red laser beam mounted in my "hair
light" strobe, to enable me to confirm (from where I'm standing, when
shooting portraits, that the hair light will actually hit the models hair. I
have lately discovered, however, that a normal flash (no honey-comb filter)
fired at the ceiling above the model will provide acceptable hair light as
well as give me a little light on the shoulders and background).
Thanks for the help, guys.

This is a shot of mine:

No firmware upgrade needed. It's plug & play :-) It's cheaper to get
one of the 3rd party models. I got the Pentax one because my camera
shop actually had some in stock, & I was picking up my 77 Ltd, so I
was already in a spending mood.

I tend to use mine in conjunction with the 2 second self timer/ mirror
lock up feature.
