Not so long ago one of our big brewing corporates decided to close the original plant of a smallish West Coast brewery they'd absorbed, and shift all production to Auckland (our biggest city), where much of the product was already being made.
The resulting nationwide public backlash ensured the original plant's continuation and South Island residents continued to get proper West Coast beer :)
