If price is the biggest factor, buy a CRT. And a 30 year old Civic to take it home with. Stand it on some bricks, use it with your IBM XT and take photos of it with your K1000.
I don't know what's out there now for good CRTs, but I would still take a good CRT over an LCD, that it could be done for that much cheaper is just a bonus.
