When Mike Johnston was on this list he commented on the idea of taking a
shot from the exact same spot from which a famous photograph was made
was a great way to improve your photography because the challenge is to
make your own, different statement from the same scene. I'd never
thought of that before and it changed my perspective a lot. I no longer
worry about if another photographer has shot the same scene from the
same location before, I just try to concentrate on my own vision of the
time and place.
