I use the Pentax LL60 "divided matte" screen. This is essentially the
same as the stock screen but with a set of horizontal and vertical
reference lines as compositional aids. I love it.
Focusing screens on the D, DS, DS2 are user interchangeable, but not
on the DL.
A German company, http://www.tekade.de/, produced a focusing screen
for the D/DS/DS2 with a split image focusing aid. Some people were
able to get one and said it worked well, but there are some issues
with spot metering accuracy.
Personally, I much prefer the simple matte ground focusing screen. I
always used to take the split image and microprism screens out of my
old film SLRs and replace them with simple matte ground focusing
screen with horizontal and vertical reference lines. Focusing aids
never do much for me but get in my way...

Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays everyone out there in PDML land. I
am wondering if anyone has successfully had a different type
focusing screen installed to replace the stock one on any of the
digital cameras *istD, DS, DL or DS2? I am assuming this would be
something that an authorized Pentax service center would need to
for someone if they wanted it or would it be a fairly easy DIY
install? Not that there is much lacking in the stock focus screen/
viewfinder, but I was just looking thru my old Minolta X700 with
the horizontal matte field with central split image focusing aid
that perked my curiosity. I've seen a few posts on focus screens,
but no real testimony of these being modified on the digitals.
Thanks,
