Correction 46 minutes to Boone, 1 hour to Johnson City, 2 hours to Asheville (according to my map software). However there probably is a one-hour lab within 10 minutes or so of of the mountain.

Anyway Boone is not a big town. Maybe 8 thousand people if you disregard the university students (easy to do in the summer when most of them are not there).

Not Boone, unless you want that fine Wal-Mart quality. Ashville, maybe, 40 minutes, Johnson City, maybe, 30 minutes.

Noting that the GFM photo contest will be digital this
year: will there be any processing available so that
those of us still shooting film may enter images?

I had hoped the istD replacement would be available
and in my hands by June, but it appears that won't be
the case.

I guess that depends on your definition of available. I suppose one could shoot color negative film, take it to a one hour processing place then scan the print or the negative. Boone is a moderately sized town about a half hour away. There's probably a quickie lab there.
