Yes, 9mp would be a significant improvement over 6mp.

Significant is a matter of opinion. Remember that 6 vs 8 Mpixels is
an area measurement, not a linear measurement.

9 Mpixel means 106% linear resolution improvement compared to 6
Mpixel.

Where does that figure come from?

I make 9MP vs 6MP a 50% area improvement, or 22.5% linear.
Not earth-shattering, perhaps, but a significant advance.

Perhaps you compared 9MP to 8MP, which is about a 6% gain.

Math error somewhere..

Given the same format proportions, a 9Mpixel sensor is likely about 2440x3660 pixels vs a 6Mpixel sensor with 2008x3008 pixels size currently. That nets a maximum of ~22.5% linear difference, as you say, which in practical terms raises the [EMAIL PROTECTED] from 16 to 19.4.

Still not a huge difference. It take a large percentage change to increase resolution visibly unless you are already working at the limits of perceptual resolution.
