I'm quite confident that the man is the young girl's father. Being the father of three, I know how fathers and daughters interact. I'm also quite sure that the woman is not the girl's mother. I'm guessing she's the father's girlfriend. He's probably divorced with weekend custody. Grandparents are generally older nowadays than they were a generation ago. I have a lot of friends who are having their first child in their forties. That means that with luck they'll be pushing seventy by the time they're grandparents.

Bet you're right. I keep forgetting how young grandparents can look.
If female adult is girl friend, then....?

After studying the picture for a few
minutes I decided the two adults could
only be grandparents -- at the most. The
child's features are totally different.

Hi Marnie,
Thanks for looking. I'm considering whether or not I should clone
out
the background people. If I decide to print this, I probably
will.

no! don't you dare... it is part of the
believability and spontinaiety of the shot.

It's
an easy job. On the other hand, this is a coffee shop, not a
studio, so
I have mixed feelings about making it too perfect. I wouldn't
really
call this "high key," because the subjects are well into midrange
grey.
It's merely backlit, something that I like to play with. And a
situation where the better Pentax lenses are superb.

I guess this is what they call high key. I think it works
overall, but
I also
think it's a little busy (background mainly). The poses are nice
on
the three
main people. Basically, there are things I like about it and
things I
am not
wild about. Reaction: mixed.
