Modern viruses aren't *supposed* to make anything go wrong - visibly -
with your computer. They're just supposed to relay mail in the
background without showing any outward sign of it.

Run a virus scan anyway. Try Avast antivirus www.avast.com
It's excellent and free.
 
I've never had a virus infection on my computer. But I only know that
*for certain* because I scan with AV software.
