Hi Fred,

These are new days, the old rules aren't so pertinent any longer. It seems that 
in camera light meters are designed to be more in tune with the media in DSLRs 
(because unlike in film cameras it's response is eminently predictable).

Matrix metering combined with the auto-exposure modes available on my *ist D 
generally do a very good job of producing an optimal exposure. If you are set 
on using CW and thinking about scenes and exposures and applying compensation 
when you expect it's needed then I assume you are getting what you expect. 
However you may find, after some experimenting, that Matrix metering will most 
often land the exposure at the same point without all the fussing. 

Have a play, it's worth a try, you may or may not like it but plenty of Pentax 
DSLR users seem to praise Matrix metering, me included.
