I forgot to mention that the image was focussed dead centre on one of the nail 
heads in the fence, it wouldn't surprise me at all that the focus across the 
frame differed, one lens is of course fully flat field corrected, the other 
suffers from pretty extreme spherical distortion.

I used to use my A135/1.8 to shoot concerts but found practically that the 
Voigt wide open with the camera ISO set a stop faster provided far superior 
image quality to the A135/1.8 at 1.8 or 2.8, they weren't really on par until 
about f5.6.
