Subject: OT: Blacks in darkroom

I'm noticing with my RCIII prints that the
blacks aren't really as black as I'd like
them to be. They're a sort of deep charcoal,
but
not a really rich black. Am I (a) imaging
things, (b) needing to experiment with
different papers or chemicals, or (c) looking
at the prints too closely.

Presuming your developer is good, RC papers
(especially Kodak) tend to not have the deepest
blacks anyway. Not enough silver in em. You
really need to go to premium fiber papers to get
truly black blacks. Also, extended wet times can
have a bad effect on RC papers D-Max (thats how
black the blacks are).
So, keep your wet times to a minimum, and maybe
bump the development times to set the blacks
better. If this doesn't help, you might want to
switch to better paper.
