(Farnsworth) Good news everyone... (/Farnsworth)

There are a couple of little metal thingies on springs that I just needed to push out of the way. It's similar in principle to the FA lens pics that were posted yesterday, but constructed a bit differently (ie more expensively).

It turned out that I needed a sharp blade to be able to do it - anything that wasn't sharp simply couldn't get underneath the end of the metal thing. There is a small notch in the assembly in just the right place, obviously for this very purpose.

Luckily I didn't need to pull the assembly apart - just get in there with the blade, press the parts together and rotate the aperture ring into the correct place.

The next difficult bit was reassembling the little contact on the mount that springs out when the lens is set to "A". This is actually self-contained and I intended to leave it as-is but it flew apart while I was fiddling with the rest of the assembly (it ended up on the floor and I was lucky to find it). This was quite fiddly but I got it together after a few frustrating minutes.

The patient has made a full recovery and is currently sitting in its rightful place.

And I'm as happy as this guy, who distracted me on the way home from buying the paper this morning.

The next step is to run a test of lens-set vs body-set aperture to make sure I reassembled the aperture lever in the right position (or at least close enough). I placed it right in the centre of its range as this will minimise the potential error. If I have to disassemble the lens again I'll be more careful :)
