Whether flare improves a photo is a matter of personal taste, and I'm
inclined to the flareless shots myself. However, for the level of
photographer who is likely to read and implement the tips, it's probably
good advice. Until you've worked in a camera store/lab, you won't believe
how many things people can do to mess up their shots. :) As for why the
author of that piece didn't try to educate people about how to take
successful photos into the sun, that I can't say. Just because I work
there doesn't mean I agree with everything they do. :)
