Hardly practical for the amount of access I need/want from optical
media, but a neat looking device. Optical media is purely secondary
archive storage for me, though, so fitting things into protective
pages and then flipping through them on the rare occasion I need one
is good enough.

You may want to take a look at a gadget called Disc Stakka from
imation. It stores up to 100 CDs or DVDs in a protected housing
away from dust and dirt, and connects to your computer where a
detailed log list is maintained. Just select the disk you want and
it automatically finds it and hands it to you via the slot on the
front. For storing larger numbers, the units stack on top of each
other. List price is around $ 150, but you can find them at good
discounts.
